It depends on whether or not you're talking about *strictly* sci-fi and fantasy as seperate genres or if you're talking about the sections in general.
In general both genres overlap one another quite a lot. Science fiction contains a lot of fantasy related things, while there is also a blurring of science fiction in fantasy.
High Fantasy would be strictly fantasy, not much blurring with science fiction (if any at all). Hard Science Fiction is sci-fi based solely on facts, pertaining to highly materialistic worlds.
All genres have followers, although many aren't outspoken about what they read. Neither genre is easy to write. In fact, writing in general is difficult, as is writing well enough that the general public will buy it.
Both genres have the problem of needing to be interesting and believeable at some point. Yes, fantasy may be fantasy, but if there are contradictions within the work itself than it isn't as believeable as it might be without them. Same with sci-fi.Which genre is more popular right now in books: science fiction or fantasy?
fantasy
It depends on age group. I actually like both and two of my favorite authors write both. Piers Anthony and Anne McCaffery.Which genre is more popular right now in books: science fiction or fantasy?
I think it's fantasy because there's less work involved with being accurate. Fantasy allows more freedom for the writer and it's a bit easier than being accurate scientifically.
Check out Barnes and Noble and compare the newer titles of sci-fi and fantasy, there are at least 5 fantasy books for every one sci-fi.Which genre is more popular right now in books: science fiction or fantasy?
well personally i didnt think that books could be "in" or "out". well one of my favorite genres i really enjoy reading are fantasy books and im a teenager so yah..
While I can't find any hard data, I suspect that Harry Potter and the LOTR movies have sparked an interest in fantasy. Fantasy and Sci-fi are generally lumped together as a single genre and accounted for roughly 7% of all book sales in 2002.
I love 'em both. Kudos to the mention of Peirs Anthony, he bridged the gap well.
i think its equal, but if i had to pick one, id say fantasy
The fantasy genre is really enjoying a boom right now, with popular culture hits like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings really bringing it into people's awareness.
However, science fiction has a really strong following that has been much more consistant over the last century or so since it really got it's start. Although there have been some big pop culture hits within it, it doesn't really have that frenzy about it that fantasy does at the moment. But it has stood the test of time.
If I had to pick one, I'd say fantasy.
Science fiction. Science fiction is always more in demand at any given time over fantasy. Fantasy is my favorite though.
i think that fantasy is the same of science fiction.
