Is science a popular field that is in demand?

If I were to get a degree in science (any field) would I have a good chance at obtaining a job as a scientist? Are scientists in demand? Are they in demand more in the civilian or military world? Is science a popular field that is in demand?
It depends on the field of science that you most enjoy. There is a tremendous demand for scientists in many countries today. It looks like physicists seem to be paid the best and academic researchers the worst. If you are have a degree in any of the quantitative sciences, like physics or computer science, the financial industry is always looking to hire number crunchers and salaries start from $100k and up.

The military does hire scientists as well, but I'm not familiar with the kinds of jobs available. In terms of salary, the private sector tends to offer more money.

I've included a link to a page showing how much scientists are paid.Is science a popular field that is in demand?
You can't just say "any type" and expect a realistic answer. I'm sure the demand for avionics experts is much higher in the military than the demand for, say, botanists. On the other hand, the military probably doesn't have too much need for archaeologists, but the civilian world may.

You really have to pick ONE science and then investigate the demand for that particular career. Is science a popular field that is in demand?
One that I know that is not too common, but are popular on television are forensic scientist, I don't know if your into that, but you would have a very good chance at getting a job as one.
