The most popular book out right now is #9 on the New York Times best seller list:

THE FORCE UNLEASHED, by Sean Williams. (Del Rey, $26.) An apprentice to Darth Vader is dispatched to kill the last of his master’s enemies; a “Star Wars” novel.

Now, your addition is a bit different.

Personally, I like the Honor Harrington series by David Weber

Honor Harrington is a naval officer, (a starship commander) in the Kingdom of Manticore and the series has a dozen or more antagonists, including pirates, the People's Republic of Haven (roughly based on 1950's USSR), corrupt politians in her own country and whole planets of religious fanatics.

Weber's writing is interesting and even the scientific details he gives about the ways his science fiction works are decent reading. His characters are interesting and personable and he has a vivid way of describing his worlds.

Anything written by Isaac Asimov..
I am currently recommending Little Brother. It is amazing. I plan on voting on it for a Hugo Award and a Hal Clement Award.

And this from Neil Gaiman

"“A wonderful, important book…I’d recommend Little Brother over pretty much any book I’ve read this year, and I’d want to get it into the hands of as many smart thirteen-year-olds, male and female, as I can. Because I think it’ll change lives. Because some kids, maybe just a few, won’t be the same after they’ve read it. Maybe they’ll change politically, maybe technologically. Maybe it’ll just be the first book they loved or that spoke to their inner geek. Maybe they’ll want to argue about it and disagree with it. Maybe they’ll want to open their computer and see what’s in there. I don’t know. It made me want to be thirteen again right now, and reading it for the first time.” —Neil Gaiman, author of Sandman and American Gods on Little Brother"

I love the book because it shows how terrorism can be mishandled by the government and how teens can really understand the Constitution.

Marcus is the main character ad the antagonist is Homeland Security.
