Do you think Science and religion can coexist?

"Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind." ~Albert Einstein

Joel Primack has a long and distinguished career as an astrophysicist. A University of California, Santa Cruz, professor, he co-developed the cold dark matter theory that seeks to explain the formation and structure of the universe

He also believes in God.

That may strike some people as peculiar. After all, in some corners popular belief renders science and religion incompatible.

Yet scientists may be just as likely to believe in God as other people, according to surveys. Some of history's greatest scientific minds, including Albert Einstein, were convinced there is intelligent life behind the universe. Today many scientists say there is no conflict between their faith and their work.

"In the last few years astronomy has come together so that we're now able to tell a coherent story" of how the universe began, Primack said. "This story does not contradict God, but instead enlarges [the idea of] God."

^^^^

How do you guys feel about this. Do you agree or disagree.

I have no problem working with science every single day of my life and being a devoted child of God.

There are no controversy, there is no contradictions, I see complete answers when both are put together.
Co-exist? Sure.

As long as religion keeps its superstitions out of science, and scientists who are religious still rigorously observe the scientific method.

By the way, Einstein was in no way "convinced there is intelligent life behind the universe." That's not in any way supportable by his statements. And whether Einstein, Primack, or anyone else does or doesn't believe in any god is irrelevant, it's an appeal to authority fallacy.

Peace.Do you think Science and religion can coexist?
For a nice balances society, yes. Don't forget that Newton and Galileo were ahead of their time, but they also were religious.

None can not deny, that there are things, not even science can explain. Thats where faith plays in. Either way they complete each other, even if people argue about that, eventually it has to be seen as true.Do you think Science and religion can coexist?
It has. Common misconception is that medieval age was a dark age for science. Really, it wasn't that bad. Alchemy thrived from that age evolved into Chemistry. And believe it or not, record shows that the church supported learning of science during that time. They were just very conservative and didn't accept certain theories.

The Book of Enoch

I totally agree. See what the Book of Enoch says about astrology/astronomy. This is a book of Biblical proportion that was not included in the Bible. It appears to me to be incomplete which is probably why it has been left out.
Yes, I would be an example. Everything that exists, coexists. science and spirit/faith do not contradict each other. It would be inflexible dogmatic scripture and Science that are in apparent contradiction in the minds of the adherents to that dogma.
Pure science reveals the truths about God physical laws and work.

"Biased science is no science at all"

I am a published scientist - internatianal journals etc. molecular biology and microbiology - I am in Cytogenetics cell genetics
Yep, being a Muslim, all the discoveries that the Christian or Jew or even Muslim scientists make increase my faith!

Science manifests God!
I do actually. There are some eminent scientists that I know have faith; Jewish, Muslim and Christian. They do not deny scientific truths.
if you want them to then they can, its only certain narrow minded individuals who are closed off to all other people who dont share the same beliefs as them who dont think they can.
coexist?

Science exists ....

Religion is mere delusion in some peoples minds!!

.
They certainly can, its their respective believers that struggle.
I think he is in the minority, 93% of all American science associations do not believe in a God
I agree, Amen.
they do coexist. religion picks up where science stops. ie: spirits
No, I do not believe they can co exist logically. Science is all about "what's out there" and how things work. It deals with theories and then proves, or attempts to prove, these theories by finding tangible evidence. That is SCIENCE.

Religion relies on faith, because (like it or not) there *is* no tangible evidence. The Bible is no more evidence of a God than Peter Pan is evidence of Never Never Land.

A Christian's personal "evidence" that there is a god is but personal revelation.

But if you mean "co exist" as in simply being on the planet at the same time, it's already happened.
I think that when people apply their standard for evidence they learned in science class to religion, they see the religion as BS.

YES, they can coexist, but only because humans are good at compartmentalizing...in this case it's compartmentalizing their standard for evidence.

PS – Einstein wasn’t religious, and most of his quotes suggesting otherwise are taken out of context.

“It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.” – Albert Einstein
Einstein may have believed in a Spinoza's god ( natural laws) but not an "intelligent life" behind the universe. He was quite clear that he did not believe in a personal god.

"The word god is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish. No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this." Einstein

Letter to philosopher Eric Gutkind, January 3, 1954

And surveys clearly show scientists are much less likely to believe in gods than the general public.

Disbelief in God and immortality among NAS biological scientists was 65.2% and 69.0%, respectively, and among NAS physical scientists it was 79.0% and 76.3%. Most of the rest were agnostics on both issues, with few believers. We found the highest percentage of belief among NAS mathematicians (14.3% in God, 15.0% in immortality). Biological scientists had the lowest rate of belief (5.5% in God, 7.1% in immortality), with physicists and astronomers slightly higher (7.5% in God, 7.5% in immortality).

You are entitled to your own opinion but not to your own facts.
No, just read some of the silly stuff here that can be found in the Bible....
