Why were The Book of Secrets (which are about Magical studies) so popular?

Apparently books such as The Book of Secrets were criticized by those who practiced “real” science, and even the translator of the book goes so far as to “suggest that the book should be treated as light reading” . So why was this book (and those like it) so popular? And why is it still around today? Why were The Book of Secrets (which are about Magical studies) so popular?
Simply put, people WANT to believe. We humans are still a primitive and immature species, and magical thinking is still rife among us.Why were The Book of Secrets (which are about Magical studies) so popular?
people want to have "knowledge" no one else has. when you say secrets,it makes people curious and ultimately buy the book. it's purely psychological. Why were The Book of Secrets (which are about Magical studies) so popular?
because the first person that read it was pulled in by the cover of the book. The second person was pulled in by the book's title (you've got to admit, wouldn't you? everyone loves to a good secret). The third person, who happened to be walking by, saw number 1 and number 2 reading this book and wanted to know why. Then every person after that went to go read the book just to see what all the commotion was about!
