When i'm reading a list that says demanded majors, is that the majors needed or the most popular majors?

I was just looking up majors demanded 2011 and some of them seem like their very popular like political science. I don't know how that demanded by any means because I've seen that least paying job unless you go on and get your JDWhen i'm reading a list that says demanded majors, is that the majors needed or the most popular majors?
Most lists like this will report where they got the info and where you can find it.

My suggestion is, if you see majors that are listed, go to Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) (http://www.bls.gov/oco/) and get the background on the likely professions. Unlike many of the online "lists", OOH is job-centric and based on real and historical numbers. It also provides baseline income data by profession and links to professional organizations you can get further information from.

For example, Social and Political Scientists (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos314.htm)

Pay close attention to the related work areas as well if you're still trying to figure out the worth of a degree because--often--a degree can actually get you into a number of related areas, even more so if you specialize your degree...

Good luck! When i'm reading a list that says demanded majors, is that the majors needed or the most popular majors?
I don't know where you read that list, because political science is far from being demanded. Demanded majors mean those majors are in need/shortage. For instance, nursing is a demand major, because US has a huge shortage of nursing. Business is a popular major, since most students are majoring in that.
