Most popular computer language ? I Am doing engineering in computer science. i am in 3rd year rite now.?

i want to know which is d most popular language computer language which i should learn n dat will help me out in my job or will increase my job opportunities. i haVe been told by some of my seniors dat i should master ONE language which will help me a great deal in finding a job.

Well there is no clear answer to that question.



While many computer scientists will tell you that C++ is the most common language out there, it is in fact the most common language used for developing major applications.



For application programming on Windows it is visual basic, and in cross platform environments it is PHP.



Java is still number one on coss platform application development but with C# a strong grower.



Oh, and in engineering and mathematics, there is still a call for FORTRAN.



So how to solve this problem.



1. Don't learn a language, learn a class of languages. Eg, Webdevelopment languages (eg JAVA), Object Orientated Languages for hard core application development (C++), application and database programming (probably these days PHP). If you get a job you might need to learn a similar language or development tool, but it doesn't have to be identical.



2. Look at job adverts, see what is hot at the moment. Go to Monster.com and read IT job adverts.



3. Realise you can't compete with some guy with 10 years C++ programming experience. But you can jump ahead of the old farts (like me) by learning something new. Eg, the hot topic at the moment is programming for mobile phones. It is new so it is easy to get into.
